Weather desk context: The July 23 edition covers Thursday through Saturday. The sharpest heat signal is over central Japan: the planning snapshot reaches 41°C in Nagoya and 40°C in Kyoto on Thursday, with temperatures near 40°C there again Friday. Tokyo is hottest Thursday before some easing Friday. Sapporo trends cooler by Saturday, while Sendai may see a Thursday thunderstorm, heavier rain Friday and rain early Saturday. Showers and thunderstorms may also be localized in western and southern Japan. Forecast confidence decreases with time, and city figures do not represent an entire prefecture.
