Ownership can be recorded in a ledger; care leaves a subtler mark. Tend to something you could never fully possess—a tree, a friendship, a borrowed book. The act may be more enduring than the title.

「役に立つの？」と聞かれても、すぐ答えなくていいものがあります。雨の日の版画、小さな詩、知らない鳥の声。説明できない喜びを守ることも、人間の大切な仕事です。
A poem cannot fix a leaking roof. That does not make it dispensable. Leave room for an experience that refuses to justify itself; not everything precious must submit an invoice.
